2010 marks the 25th year that the famous Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) will reel out over 200 films from around the globe.  Various notable filmmakers and celebrities will attend many of the screenings and events over the 21 day fest, October 22 – November 11. Parties and gatherings at area “hot spots”, on board yachts, and on the beach will provide audiences an opportunity to hob knob with film talent and other movie buffs.

At the heart of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival are the films and the artists that create them. During the festival, films are divided into the following sidebars:

COMPETITION FILMS

FLIFF has a panel of judges – consisting of professionals in the film industry to decide which films have what it takes to win top honors.

A new competition film will be shown nightly during the Fort Lauderdale section of the festival. Be sure to catch all of these films before the awards are handed out at our Luminaries Gala, so you can see if your scorecard matches the judges.

Competition categories include jury prize for best film, special jury prize, best director, best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best ensemble cast, best screenplay, best cinematography, best score, and best foreign language.

Recent News: General Manager of Signature Grand Awarded Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Hero of the Month! Not to long ago, Michael Berry, General Manager of the Signature Grand, participated in the Leadership Broward Program.  He has since become an active leader in the LBF Board and Executive Committee as VP of Special Events.  Because of this, the Signature Grand signed on as a Community Trustee and provides generous financial and in-kind donations and hosts various “Signature” events.   Michael, with the assistance from a few of his LBF friends, created an 8-week etiquette course for at-risk children and young adults hosted by the Signature Grand, which helped them to learn valuable lessons while enjoying wonderful meals in an elegant setting that they might not have otherwise had.

The Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce’s mission is to:
•   Strengthen public trust in and support for our school system
•   Host Educational Forums to encourage community feedback on issues that directly affect education in Broward County
•   Provide more support and resources for Broward County schoolchildren and facilitate business partnerships with Broward County Public Schools

Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Arlene Pecora, co-founder of Signature Grand, would like to extend a few resume building tools to help you prepare for this event:

Tip 1: Length of your resume. You may have heard about the “one page rule”, but here’s the thing:  it is not always true. If you’re fresh out of school with very lttle business experience, then keep it to one page. If you’ve attained degrees and have had years of experience relating to the position that you desire, please do NOT leave it out.

Tip 2: References. Prior to giving your references, make sure that they know that you listed them. That way they are prepared when they receive a call! References are people that you have selected to list on your resume as “proof” that you are who you say you are. Be sure to include them on your resume or the line “resumes available upon request”. This ensures that you are prepared for any type of investigation!

Tip 3: Use power words. Use specific numbers and years. State exactly how many people you were in charge of, what the revenue was as part of the business description, and any specific awards and honors you can think of. Power words show intelligence and, of course, “power”. Power words are words such as: “Achieved”, “generated”, “initiated”.
